It's never too early for breast cancer awareness!
Validating Core Breast Exam Competencies
The earliest and most frequent symptom of breast cancer is a lump detected by hand, and is often confirmed at a later stage than necessary due to unskilled physical performance of clinical exams.1,2,3
Traditional training methods using surrogate patients and/or static breast models lack an objective means for measuring the trainee’s performance for detecting all true positives and rejecting false positives. Immediate confirmation of these critical skills is vital for meeting the global need to downstage breast cancer for millions of women each year.
These limitations have been addressed using MammaCare's new Breast Exam Skill Validation Tool.
Automatic Breast Exam Validation
All breast exams performed on MammaCare training models are now automatically measured and validated by our online Validation Tool.
During each breast exam, students record the location of each suspicious lump they find. After completing the exam, they will be presented with a visual report of the lumps they found (sensitivity) and those that were missed (specificity).
Validate at No Additional Cost
MammaCare is committed to ensuring the highest standards of breast exam skills. To support early detection programs and educational institutions, we proudly offer our online validation tool at no cost to programs and universities using our breast models, regardless if they choose to adopt an official MammaCare training curriculum or use their own.
Train Your Way and Validate with MammaCare
Experienced practitioners have developed their own methods for performing and teaching clinical breast exam skills over many years, but confirming the skills of their students is difficult as the detection of suspicious breast lumps is largely a private event between the examiner and their own fingers. By using MammaCare training models, this is now a public event that can be validated and remotely confirmed across large groups of trainees.
Those that choose to adopt the official MammaCare training curriculum will learn the MammaCare Method of Clinical Breast Examination, developed with the support of the National Cancer Institute and National Science Foundation.
MammaCare Method of Clinical Breast Examination
The MammaCare Method of Clinical Breast Examination (CBE) is the result of research that identified five essential examination techniques for performing a standardized clinical breast examination.
Each student will learn the MammaCare Method of CBE by observing proper examination techniques through video demonstrations and interactive palpation exercises using two breast models containing lifelike breast lumps.
See-Through Training Model
SKU: Combo
The see-through teaching model allows the student to see what they are feeling as they learn to discriminate between normal nodularity and suspicious breast lumps.
Advanced Testing Model
SKU: S2
The advanced opaque breast model allows the student to practice detecting suspicious breast lumps hidden within complex tissue and receive immediate feedback about their lump detections.
